Updates From Last Rangers Practice Before Playoffs

Updates From Last Rangers Practice Before Playoffs

Tomorrow evening, Madison Square Garden will be rocking as the Rangers and Flyers take the ice for game one of the Stanley Cup playoffs. But before we get to tomorrow, the teams had one last practice day to work out any remaining kinks and try to figure out who is healthy. That last part might be the key to the series.

Yesterday, Derick Brassard left practiceearly holding his lower back.…

Rangers Recall J.T. Miller Again

Rangers Recall J.T. Miller Again

I should know better than to say it’s expected to be a quiet day around the Rangers. Anytime I think that, they always do something. That said, I didn’t expect this:

OFFICIAL NEWS: #NYR have recalled forward J.T. Miller from @WolfPackAHL.

— New York Rangers (@NYRangers) April 14, 2014

Sigh.

I don’t even know what to say anymore. Yes I expected him to be part of the taxi squad coming up when…

Black & Blueshirts Turns Two!

Black & Blueshirts Turns Two!

While it’s expected to be another quiet day around the Rangers as the boys were given yesterday and today off before starting to prepare for the Flyers, it isn’t entirely quiet around here. And why is that? Because we’re celebrating turning two!

That’s right – it was two years ago tonight that Brandon Dubinsky threw a Gatorade container and I wrote my first ramblings about this team we know and…

Rangers vs. Flyers: Circle These Dates!

Rangers vs. Flyers: Circle These Dates!

While we’ve known for days who the Rangers first round opponent would be as well as assumed game one would be on Thursday, we didn’t have a full schedule. Well now we do:

round 1

I’m sure there are people who will dissect the schedule but I don’t really see a point in that. It is what it is. Although the back-to-back for games 6 and 7 does suck. That said, pretty sure the Rangers had that exact same…

Rangers Almost Make It Two In A Row In Montreal

Rangers Almost Make It Two In A Row In Montreal

The last time the Rangers went to Montreal they broke a four and a half year curse by walking out with two points. That game featured Raphael Diaz as a Canadien and had Ryan Callahan scoring the only goal of the game. Obviously things have changed since then. But the one constant – Cam Talbot was in net for the visitors and once again the Rangers house of horrors didn’t phase him. Although back…

Rangers Clinch Home Ice In First Round

Rangers Clinch Home Ice In First Round

There were a number of playoff implications going into tonight’s games. A Rangers win in regulation would ensure the boys could drop no lower than third place in the Metro division. And if the Rangers won and the Flyers lost in regulation, they would be guaranteed the second seed and home ice in the first round. Thanks Tampa! (No, Ryan Callahan had no part in the victory but I heard he had a…

Lightning Strikes As Rangers Weather Hurricane

Lightning Strikes As Rangers Weather Hurricane

As I watched the first few minutes of this game, I was taken back to March 11th when I was sitting in PNC Arena watching these same two teams “play” hockey. It wasn’t pretty then and it wasn’t pretty tonight as I prepared myself for what looked to be a long night at MSG.

I don’t know what happened but something clicked to the boys in blue. Sure it helped that the Hurricanes looked like they were…

Updates On McDonagh, Kreider + Staal As Rangers Prepare To Play Canes

Updates On McDonagh, Kreider + Staal As Rangers Prepare To Play Canes

For a game day optional skate, it was a busy morning around the Rangers today. That probably had something to do with this:

Yes, that would be Ryan McDonagh and Chris Kreider on the ice this morning. There is no way to say how good of a…

Rangers Are In The Playoffs!

Rangers Are In The Playoffs!

It definitely wasn’t the way they wanted to clinch but as with taking two points in a game they don’t deserve, they’ll take it. With the Devils loss to the Flames tonight, even if the Rangers lose their last three remaining games in regulation, they cannot be caught by those outside the playoff bubble and are therefore headed to the post season for the eighth time in nine years.

Yes the outcome…

Will Defense Wind Up Being Rangers’ Achilles Heal?

Will Defense Wind Up Being Rangers’ Achilles Heal?

At the start of the season, the feeling was the Rangers had one of the best defenses in the league. Dan Girardi and Marc Staal were seen as defensive stalwarts (for the latter when healthy, which he was believed to be), Ryan McDonagh was expected to continue blooming into a Norris candidate, Anton Stralman was still seen as a great waiver pick up and the young pair of Michael Del Zotto and John…
